Treating Without Informed Consent

All kinds of human testing reports making news. Seems the homeless have attracted serious study. Knowing how tight money is, I would point out, You may want to hire people with real credentials. Tossing people into tests that limit their access to housing, hygiene, is similar to seeing how long people can hold their breath, thrust, hunger. Those that would normally work with homeless would also understand the hierarchy of needs.

Big words. These medical studies, some sponsored by HUD, manufactures and the like, do not take ethics into account (calling them, economic studies is a perversion). Some cities have argued this is the right thing to do. If they intended to do the right thing, their lab rats would have known, understood implications in advanced. Should some cities return to fend-for-yourself or as some have called, colonial times, tell them up front.

Ethical mistreatment of Americans is bad enough. Some reports indicate the practice started here and is spreading around the world because it is cheaper. The exception is where media gets in the way. Keeping costs down during this Great Recession may make someone happy. It will not make most Americans happy.

Afghan Warlords Need To Keep Their Cash In Afghanistan

President Karzai first victory for his newly formed rag-tag army was defending the town, Tarin Kowt. Said to be the heart of the Taliban. With the help of a small group of our Special Forces, they defended their town, turned back the Taliban.

The Taliban surrendered Kandahar, December 7, 2001. Pashtun have ruled Afghanistan. Pushtu are the Taliban. President Karzai is Pashtun. Sixty percent Afghanies are Pushtu. A tribal people, and each of their tribe kept a weapons cache. Those fighters, memorialized in their art are called, Lashkar. Men that enjoy fighting, dying are called Lash.

Lashkar-e-Tayyeba (aka Lashkar-e-Taiba) were built by Pakistan's encouragement. They have not joined the Taliban. At one time, it was thought their joining the Taliban would bring down Pakistan and most of the region. Other Lashkar segments of tribes have joined up with Taliban as fighters. Once, their income source was poppy. Like drug dealers everywhere, their biggest mistake, seeking supply chain dominance. This has brought internal fighting. They use Pakistan bombings as a mark of power. Top rivals kill off one another, those left blow up a marketplace, blame America. That marketplace may be in Pakistan, Afghanistan, Iran...

President Karzai threads the needle. In 2001, most were sure he had what it took to unite Afghanistan. He too was a Lashkar. Today, he is a dad, and can become the father of a new Afghanistan. His big problems include, those Lashkars fighting with the Taliban that will not lay down their weapons, Vast amount of cash that leave Afghanistan, Using war to keep huge cash flowing (some stays). Had the Warlords kept their cash in Afghanistan, they would use their banks for investment. Commerce would thrive, eventually. Government would have an income. Lashkars would return their weapons.

The Taliban and al Qaida would live off poppy income in the tribal Pakistan's tribal areas.

HHS Is Slacking

We had more debate on healthcare than most of us wanted to see. One would think, HHS would be out front. They did some work. If you look at the month of November, that appears all they worked on. One month is not enough. Why did it take a Congressional Committee to point out what Mini-Meds were. Better than industrial insurance, however...

Unable to find any movement on FDA allowing poor Americans to import their lifesaving drugs from Canada. They do worry about that Canadian pill being the same as the American pill. Both were manufactured at the same plant, same time, but -there can be a difference. Sure.

No one would claim all Administration Institutions need superstars. One would expect all Institutions to show up, be involved.

Our Infrastructure Needs The Transaction Fee

The worlds markets have recovered. Our Federal Reserve's stability spending has worked and its future spending offers even more protection. Our crumbling infrastructure needs to be rebuilt. Our government has already instituted selling off unused Real Estate.

That transaction fee should not hurt. It was blocked early by this White House, because, they preferred a VAT (much like a sales tax, the EU sees our lack of one as an obstacle to our imports there) tax. Most likely it will not have an Infrastructure Bank, something else preferred by this President, Wall Street. We need those jobs. There is no guarantee it will pass.

Should it pass, Washington can point to it as a proactive step taken before another bridge falls, dam breaks, and the like. That tax is temporary, Who knows, someday we can use it and a VAT tax to eliminate the income tax.

Unity Of Effort Needs Codifying

Admiral Thad Allen urged adopting Unity Of Effort into the concept Responsible Party. This modification to the law governing spills and disaster response would allow people wanting to be good neighbors to be good neighbors. Both the Stafford Act (Robert T. Stafford Disaster Relief and Emergency Assistance Act, PL 100-707) and the 1990 Oil Spill Act (The Oil Pollution Act (OPA) was signed into law in August 1990) created new legal terms.

From his extensive experience with both, the practical application of Unity Of Effort. An example, the 1990 Act privatizes the response, while making the United States President accountable for correct implementation.

Maddow Gives A Four Star Iraq Report, 3 Lessons Learned

Ms. Maddow scored big in Iraq. Fast becoming GenX's Edward R. Murrow, Ms. Maddow scooped the broadcast media with the last combat brigade leaving Iraq. With strong support from NBC and the services, she delivered her show from her second choice, outside, in the night presentation (her first choice was hit by mortars or rockets before she went on live). She did a complete look into our Iraqi involvements. From delivering a tank round into a target to a pleasant walk on Baghdad's most bombed street, "It's safe now."

In interview after interview, she delivered a realistic picture of what we can expect, What we need to know: People living in the old combat zone, see success in equal access to government services. In Iraq it is electricity at the flick of a switch. The fixers, translators, need easy access to visas, a way out if things change. We need to understand the people in the war we are fighting. What do they see in our attempt (not what we think they see). No more Vietnam's. Many of her reports are on her site, I was not able to link to them.

Taliban Winning PR In Pakistan Flood Aid

America's need for donor conferences, pomp and circumstance is making it tough on winning the hearts and minds. No doubt, helping in Pakistan will help the corrupt, the Taliban. Taliban is claiming more than 100,000 volunteers deployed. They also claimed they killed 10 aid workers -volunteer doctors, staff- because they were Christians. Faith based -hero- assassinations.

No. Say the Afghan police, they were robbed, in the heart of the old Northern Alliance home base near Tajikistan. Once, one would find the Taliban getting in and out of that region alive, far more amazing then the claimed killing of innocent healers.

Often inferred, the old Northern Alliance is said to have left Afghanistan, except to come back for their graft, fly back out. With the once thought hopeless mission of ending corruption, Afghanistan is making real progress, capturing funds headed out. With these hard benchmarks, Why are we not in helping Pakistan with all we have. Were we to multiply the aid already delivered to Pakistan flood victims by ten, we will only scratch the surface. If the Taliban produce fifty percent of aid they have claimed, Pakistan is lost.

Would A Pirate Sting Work

08/10/2010 (People Port) The U.S. crackdown on terrorists is in full swing. Our Secretary Geithner is prowling the world's financial markets. Many new terrorists are showing up on lists. This spells trouble for so many people.

The pirates seemed to skate by... Their sophisticated operations require huge amount of money for such a poor area. GPS, satellite communications and the like all take money. Sure looks like a perfect sting operation. Our Drug Enforcement Agency is sure giving the Afghan narco-terrorists a tough time.

It may be the right time to take it to the Pirates. Some have even went to work for the terrorists there, add a few more names to list of people supporting terrosrist.

All this costs. Our Justice Department has warned those helping terrorists will find themselves in a U.S. Jail or dead on the battlefield. If you are going to target innocents, you will feel our might.

Iran, Send Our Americans Home To Their Families

We had our Secretaries Geithner, Clinton announce the tough new Iranian sanctions (Joint Statement of Secretary Geithner and Secretary Clinton ). We have had the leak of thousands of documents that tend to show our Ally is far more dangerous to US than Iran.

Plenty of reports show Iran and Venezuela teeming up to produce yellow cake. Not the kind you eat. What Iran probably does not understand, Venezuela, to make trouble for its rival, Columbia, is giving sanctuary to narco-terrorists. While I cannot substantiate this, Too many people believe the narco-terrorists will be in on the deal. Some see it as an excuse not to give Columbia a Free Trade deal.

I do not understand the Why, however, things that should be going right in our Mid-East, continue to go wrong.

In Our Instant World, Decisions Must Be Informed

07/27/10 (People Port) The Shirley Sherrod video looks most like a business breakfast meeting (Watch the 40 min video). She was USDA's executive for rural development in Georgia. Her personal lecture revealed where and how her entrepreneur skills were developed. She, her job, were not about race, She is about developing rural America. Great video to watch, easily substitute any rural town, I heard that same tax discussion...

In this instance, race was used to draw this Administration into a lose/lose situation. Sure a Race link under issues on the White House landing page may pacify, The critics seam to forget. candidate Obama is now President Obama. Make no mistake -He is the most powerful person, In the most powerful nation the world has ever known. He should not -ever- use his bully pulpit to take down a little muckraker -that is the DNC's job, never higher or official. All this makes one of my favorite points, Words can only shape actions. Our new world of blogs, instant news, means instant decisions. Those instant decisions must be informed Stop being so cheap, hire some people for all your departments. Previous Administrations could, usually did, have multi-media responses ready in hours.

Ms. Sherrod You Can Still Help Rural Georgia

07/27/10 (People Port) Heard where you were offered several jobs. Good. You may want to ask your new friend, President Obama, to ask Rahm Emanuel's Hollywood brother to set you up with a speaking tour, book and movie deal. That gets the young'uns attention. Seeing your life on the big screen, hearing about your speaking tour... You know better than most, a small 50 acre farm, even if you own the land, does not produce enough income to pay for the equipment. Your highlighting rural America can focus the attention, bring about change.

People Port Editorial: BP May Have Shown The World How To Make Rain Storms.

More possible global good from the disaster in the Gulf Of Mexico. We may be able to make rain storms. The radar images during the tropical storm that hit Mexico seemed to show the rain clouds forming at that site.

Back when terrorist only hijacked airplanes, a common worry was a supertanker hijacking. The assumption, they would set it on fire as tropical waves left the coast of Africa if not paid a ransom. Pirates now hijack supertankers. Al-Shabab and their terrorist pals occupy a region that could use the rain.

From the weather loops, it may take many fire boat -water curtains- to accomplish the rain storms...

That Jury Has Been Bought

Those watching the Financial Crisis Inquiry Commission on June 30th saw an effort to place all blame on oversight, sub prime. What their witnesses told, there was a run on the bank, Nevada's Gaming (or New Jersey) would have done a better job.

Some want us to believe derivatives were bought and sold in a perfect market. I chose,
Washington Full Throttle Economic Rescue as a reminder, people involved were not sitting around, puffing on their pipes -things were going very wrong.

In September 2008 -fixed- mortgages, prime mortgages, and sub prime mortgages were going bad. Sorry, Unemployment was a real issue in 2008. How many people believe, all unemployed live in rental housing or paid off homes, few, if any.

This Commission's work has been exceptional. All theories of causes need a fair airing. Pursing a point can help see a cause that most would miss. From the Commission's past work, that may have been all they were doing.

People Port Editorial: Congress Needs To Pass Small Business Job Creation Act

This Great Recession has torn up Wall Street, Main Street. Wall Street is almost rebuilt, Let us not forget Main Street. The Small Business Job Creation Act addresses the many problems. Some argue, Too small to do any good.

Those forty thousand that did receive help would say otherwise. It was wrong to use this Great Recession as a political tool. We cannot go back and fix what went wrong. Congress can and should do all it can now. The help outlined in Senate Takes Up Small Business Job Creation Act is a start. This Great Recession is not over.
